Reading Journal #4

Well, I'm reading a new book and it's called "The Silver Chair". So far, the book it pretty good. It's about 2 kids who were going to a school called an "Experiment House" and how they tried to escape into a magical land called Narnia. It seemed that one of the two kids was always being picked on at the Experiment House, so she and her friend decide to flee into Narnia.

Reading Journal #2 and #3

Well since I had forgotten to do journal #2 I'll merge it with #3. Just a reminder, the book i read is "Breaking Through" by Francisco Jiminez which is a terrific book and I advise you to check it out.

Francisco is now a high school student. He is striving on his studies and is trying extremely hard to make it the Cal Poly. I can't really relate to this part of the story because I hae only been a high school student for 3 weeks, but I can understand why Francisco would want to study as hard as he did. #1 He wanted to have a better future. #2 He probably wanted to go to college so that he could accomplish something no one else has in his family. #3 He didn't want to live the rest of his life doing hard labor jobs.

Francisco had eventually succeeded in reaching his goals and he did attend college. This feat was probably very hard to accomplish for someone that had illegally imigrated from a different country. Not that many illegal immigrants had been able to stay in America that long, yet alone go to college in this country. I admire Francisco's perseverance and determination. He is living proof that if you work hard, anything is possible.

Chargers vs Broncos

All I can say about this game is... WOW.

The referee's were not at all fair. It was obvious that Jay Cutler had fumbled the ball, but somehow, the referee's were able to make it so that it was still Denver's ball. Also, in the beginning of the game, it was clear to everyone that Chris Chambers was down before the defender got the ball. When Norv tried to challenge it, the ref said that the review systems were down. Can you imagine that? I don't know why the referee had been so against the Chargers. Maybe because someone paid him, or maybe because he just doesn't like the Chargers. No matter what though, when you are obviously biased to one team, you don't hurt the players because they still get their salaries. You hurt the fans that watch them. Thank you and have a good day.

Where I'm From

I am from the rice that i eat everyday,

from milk and cereal

I am from the canyon behind my fence.

(brown, dirty, and smelled like plants)

I am from the many types of vegetable plants in my garden

the palm tree that grows along side with me

I am from Chinese gambling and messed up teeth

from Tedrous and Andy

I am from the procrastinators and the take off your shoes when you get inside

From if you dont do the right thing, you'll visit the devil

I'm from a Christian family that never goes to church

I'm from America but with Chinese blood and ancestry running through me

From the watermelons and honeydews my mother threw down the balcony to scare people

to the words my uncle wrote in his bedroom wall

All throughout my hous were pictures of family

Some that I meet everyday

Others that I never laid eyes on

The people I loved and cherished

Who left me when I was young

The ones that make me proud of who I am

I am 高百生

Breaking Through

Hey. I recently read the first 6 chapters of the book, Breaking Through by Francisco Jiménez for a school assignment. The book was extremely captivating because it was based on the author's experience as an immigrant. My favorite part was when the author and his brother had to adapt to American culture by learning American songs and even how to dance. In my opinion, they worked even harder than most American kids just to fit in. This book is all about Francisco's life as a Mexican Immigrant. It's a eally good book and i hope you have the chance to check it out.
